Dr Maxine Cheung is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists as well as a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists. She is also a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, as well as a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) from The University of Melbourne.

Working Experience
Dr Maxine Cheung has lived, trained, and worked in both Australia and Hong Kong. She began her psychiatric training in Hong Kong’s public sector before working at a private expatriate clinic that served an international, multilingual, and multicultural clientele. She later relocated permanently to Australia. During her time in Hong Kong, she served as an honorary clinical tutor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and at the Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit at The University of Hong Kong. Additionally, she worked in NGOs that provided services to refugees and underprivileged populations in Hong Kong. In Melbourne, she has worked as a senior registrar at Eastern Health and currently serves as a consultant at Austin Health. Dr Cheung specializes in both general adult psychiatry and child and adolescent mental health, with extensive experience delivering community and inpatient care. Her background also includes work as a qualified physiotherapist at a special school for children with disabilities.
Dr. Maxine Cheung believes in the uniqueness of each individual’s mental health journey. She employs a holistic approach, collaborating with clients on both evidence-based medication options and effective psychotherapies. Drawing from her diverse personal and professional experiences, Dr. Cheung is particularly sensitive to challenges faced by people from various cultural and professional backgrounds. She has insight into the complexities of managing mental health across different life situations, especially for those navigating cross-cultural experiences.
As a telehealth psychiatrist, Dr Cheung is able to offer care and advice for individuals with mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, neurodivergent and perinatal conditions, as well as selected cases of psychotic disorders.
