What Most Patients Pay
Most new patients see a psychiatrist for a 50-minute initial consultation, followed by review appointments.
Fees vary between our psychiatrists according to their experience and subspecialty. As a guide, for a face-to-face appointment:

Before You Book a Telehealth Initial Consultation
If you have seen a psychiatrist before — in person or by telehealth, at any practice, at any time — Medicare will not pay a rebate for a telehealth initial consultation. You would pay the full fee of $990 to $1,180.
If this applies to you, book a face-to-face initial consultation instead, where the rebate is available. Call us on 1300 680 000 if you're not sure and we'll check before you book.
Telehealth initial consultations are by video only. Telephone appointments are available for review consultations.
Two Types of Initial Consultation
Ongoing care
You become a patient of the practice and we manage your care over time, working with your GP. This is what most patients book.
Assessment or second opinion
A single consultation with written advice back to your GP, who continues managing your care. The fee is higher but the Medicare rebate is also higher, so the out-of-pocket cost is usually lower.

How Appointments Are Billed
We bill the Medicare item that matches the actual length of your consultation, not the length of the booking slot. Rebates differ between items, so the rebate you receive reflects the time your psychiatrist spent with you.

Copies of your medical record
$66 including GST.
Medicare
You need a current referral to claim a Medicare rebate.
- A GP referral to a named psychiatrist is valid for 12 months
- A referral from another specialist is valid for 3 months
- Referrals for ongoing care can be extended by your GP
Without a valid referral you'll be charged the full fee with no rebate.
We process your Medicare claim at the time of your appointment. The rebate is paid into the bank account you’ve registered with Medicare, usually within two business days.
Medicare Safety Net
Once you reach your Safety Net threshold, Medicare pays 80% of your out-of-pocket costs for out-of-hospital services for the rest of the calendar year. Thresholds are set by Services Australia and change annually — current figures are at servicesaustralia.gov.au.
Private health insurance does not cover out-of-hospital specialist consultations. You cannot claim from both Medicare and your health fund for the same appointment.
Payment
Payment is taken at the time of booking. We accept card payment; a surcharge may apply.
Cancellations and Rescheduling
We need two full business days’ notice to cancel or reschedule without a fee.
With less than two business days’ notice, a fee of 50% of the consultation fee applies. The remaining 50% can be put towards a rebooked appointment, or refunded to the card you paid with.
We hold appointment times exclusively for you, and at short notice they usually can't be offered to someone else.
