Dr James Dickens is an experienced and approachable Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over 20 years of clinical experience. He graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Manchester, UK, in 2002, following a successful career in business.
He attained Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK) in 2007 and completed higher specialist training, becoming a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2010. He was also awarded a Master of Science in Psychiatry from the University of Manchester in 2010.
In 2024, Dr Dickens attained Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). He is recognised for his compassionate, flexible, and patient-centred approach, working collaboratively with young people and their families to support meaningful outcomes.

Working Experience
Dr Dickens has over 20 years of experience in psychiatry, specialising in child and adolescent mental health.
He is currently working with Queensland Health on the Gold Coast as a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry within the Assertive Outreach Team. Prior to this, he worked in general community mental health services.
Before relocating to Australia, Dr Dickens worked for over 10 years as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the National Health Service (NHS), UK, alongside running a private practice in England.
His clinical approach combines evidence-based medication management with psychological and family-based interventions, tailored to each young person’s individual needs.
