Dr Sukumar Rajendran

Dr Sukumar Rajendran is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and a Fellow of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, with almost 20 years of experience in Australia working in psychiatry. He has a broad range of psychiatric experience working and training primarily within the Sydney Local Health District in both hospital and outpatient settings, and more recently in private practice both in Sydney and with the complex needs of veterans and general populations of rural NSW. His varied interests have led him to pursue experiences in Substance Use Disorders, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Acute and Chronic Adult Psychiatry, Adolescent Psychiatry and Early Intervention, Eating Disorders, Recovery Model Based Mental Health Intervention, Psychogeriatrics, Community Mental Health, Metabolic Health and Medical Comorbidity, Forensic Mental Health, Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Complex Trauma, and Psychopharmacology.

He has a keen dedication to practising up to date evidence-based medicine addressing the individual biopsychosocial needs of patients. His appointment to a permanent role as Consultant Psychiatrist at Croydon Mental Health in Sydney, and experience over the last two years in private practice has allowed him to focus more on psychotherapy, which forms the bread and butter of psychiatric practice.

Having a special interest in general medicine he has spent at least three years working at Concord Repatriation General Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Consultation Liaison and Drug and Alcohol service roles, where there was ample opportunity working with complex cases with medical comorbidity, pain and trauma, palliative care, and difficult psychosocial circumstances.

At Mind Oasis, he hopes to bring his expertise in an individually tailored, Recovery-Based and multi-disciplinary team approach to a more discerning demographic seeking specialist help in their journey to better quality of life.
